Description
This Pinot Noir is a blend of two Yarra Valley subregions Tarrawarra (40%) and Gruyere (60%). The vineyards are Martingale in Gruyere owned and operated by Chris Kennedy along with the Denton family estate in Tarrawarra.
A wet Spring pushed growers to their limits to keep on top of the emerging canopies. Frequent thunderstorms brought heavy rain in bursts, interspersed with bright sunshine. The vigour of spring and a warm but not hot summer produced good canopies. Fruit set was excellent, and the season continued with consistently mild temperatures, avoiding the typical heat spikes. This gentle ripening period allowed the fruit to retain acidity and develop beautifully layered flavours.
The crops in Tarrawarra were harvested late February and the Gruyere vineyard was picked 8 days later in the first week of March.
The fruit of the Denton vineyard high on the granite outcrop in Tarrawarra brought with it a sense of muscularity and strength that combined with the plushness of the Denton vineyard to produce a complex wine.
Another excellent rendition of this well-packaged and, more importantly, well-priced wine. A light, bright cherry red. Pure fruited, with aromas of crushed strawberries, red cherry and bright floral scents. Light to medium bodied, this piquant, balanced wine is already drinking well now and will continue to do so over the next two to three years at least. 93 Points Philip Rich Halliday Wine Companion September 2025
