2023 SOS Yarra Valley Pinot Noir

$30.00

Pinot Noir – Yarra Valley

13.2% ALC/ Vol, 2884 cases bottled.

The wine: Bright concentrated berries dominate the wine with a complex array of spices, dark cherries and blood plums. The palate is lifted and fine with great length.

Eat with: Pair with Cured meat charcuterie board; or a burnt butter, sage & mushroom pasta or any grilled meats coming off the barbie
Do: crank up Chet Baker and Miles Davis albums, don a peaked cap, play cards with friends

Harvest: This wine is a blend of three vineyard sites, two in Tarrawarra and one in Gruyere and range in age from 5 to 15 years old.

2023 was a year of lighter yields as a result of extremely low bunch weights. This resulted in an increased skin to juice ratio, and with it more concentrated flavour and tannin. Cool ripening conditions throughout summer helped the fruit retain higher natural acidity than normal, giving the resulting wines more length and great balance.

Crops were picked across the middle 2 weeks of March. One parcel was hand-picked and destemmed into a static tank, the other two selectively harvested and sent straight to large format stainless steel. All ferments had extended skin contact of 14 days before being pressed. Post fermentation each of the parcels spent 6 months in oak before being blended and bottled.

*** 95 Points, Philip Rich. Halliday Wine Companion, September 2024 ***

“A blend of fruit from three sites and all planted with MV6. A gorgeous, light, bright crimson purple. This leaps out of the glass with its aromas of freshly picked cherries, blood orange and mountain herbs. The palate is moreish, energetic and fine boned. Super value, you’d be delighted if this was on by the glass at your local cafe or pub.”
